How long is the season? Typically the season starts with practices in January and extends through the end of April. All Star Season begins in May and can last all the way through August. Please see the calendar for dates for valuations, Opening and Closing days.
Does my daughter have to have prior experience? Not at all. New players are welcome in all divisions, 6U through High School
What is included as part of registration? Registration fees include the following items for each player: 1 team jersey, a team headband, and basic set of team photos.
What is the age cut off for each division? A player's league age and home division is determined on January 1st of the current calendar year. For example, an 8U player can be no more that 8 years old on January 1st. Players wishing to "play up" or have other circumstances related to which division to register for should contact playeragent@simivalleygirlssoftball.org.
What type of equipment does my daughter need? She will need an ASA certified bat, a batting helmet with a faceguard, a glove, cleats (look for molded cleats, no metal spikes), and we suggest an infielders face mask. If your daughter is a catcher, possibly catching gear. SVGS does make bats, helmets, and gloves available (as available, limited to first come, first served) to those that cannot afford or prefer to not purchase the equipment.

Once the season begins, teams have 2 games per week, 1 during the week and 1 on Saturday. Most teams will still have practice once a week. positions are needed? Our league is solely made up of

Any parent that is helping around the kids (team mom, coaches, managers) and will interact with the players on the field must have a yearly background check done. There are no exceptions to this rule regardless of personal profession or security clearances.

Can players live outside the city of Simi Valley and still play in SVGS? Yes. There are no geographical
restrictions to play in SVGS.
I
have registered my daughter for the Spring Season... now what? Check the calendar
and be sure your daughter attends her assigned time on the player evaluation date. You will receive an email indicating when her assigned timeslot will be ready to be retrieved online. Shortly after the player evaluations, the managers will use a draft process to form the teams with the primary goal being to balance abilities across teams. As soon as the draft is complete, you will hear from
your child’s manager, providing you with wealth of information (parent's
meeting, first practices, team rosters, team contact information, etc.) Please note 6U division do not participate in player evaluations. Be sure to check the website's homepage for relevant season start up
information.
What is Player Evaluation? Everyone that signs up for Spring makes a team. Player evaluations are not "try-outs". Player evaluations help managers understand each players skill level to help them form fair and balanced teams. During the evaluations, the girls will be put through a series of drills to evaluate both their defensive and offensive skills.
Can my two daughters be
on the same team? Yes. As long as they qualify for the
same age group.
Can we get my
daughter’s friend on the same team for carpooling purposes? The teams are formed by a draft process
to ensure fair and balanced teams. As such, we cannot guarantee her friend will be on the same team. In the 6U divisions we try to group the
girls with their classmates (schools) to make it a more enjoyable experience
for them. As there is no draft process in 6U special requests "may" be considered but are not guaranteed.
When and where are the
games played? Schedule is subject to change based on divisions and teams. We do try to plan for a 2 games/week schedule in each divisions. One game during a weekday and second game on Saturday. For the weekday games, the division nights are as follows:
- Monday - 8U
- Tuesday - 6U
- Wednesday - 12U
- Thursday - 10U
- Friday - High School
All divisions play second game on Saturday. 14U may see double headers on Fridays in lieu of a Saturday game. Please note there may be Sunday games and changes to schedules due to rain/holidays. Schedule is subject to change at moments notice. Games are played at Big Sky fields and Apollo fields. For 12U/14U divisions, games may also be played at neighboring leagues due to interleague play.
What time are games and
practices held? Weekday games will begin as early as 5:00 P.M. (Apollo) and 6:00 P.M. (Big Sky).
Saturday game times will begin at 9:00 a.m.and may be scheduled until
approximately 6:00 p.m. Please keep in mind that your manager will want you at
the field forty-five minutes to one hour prior to game time so that your
daughter is warmed up properly. Practices can start as early as 4:00 p.m.
during the week. Practice times and days are up to the manager to select.
How long are the
practices and games? Practices during the season are on average 1.5 to 2 hrs long with older divisions being closer to 2 hr mark. Note: Some
managers may extend the time from time to time to work on specific drills or
skills. This will be at the manager's discretion. Games are normally 1:30 long.
Who do I call if I have
problems with my manager, uniform, fundraiser, etc.? You should always try to solve any
problems through your team manager first. If he/she does not seem able to
resolve your issue, you can contact the Division Director, or any Board Member.
How often does the Board meet? The Board meets every two weeks, on Tuesday evenings. Times and locations may change, depending on the availability of meeting location. General Board Meetings are open to the public.
